We’ve revamped Sown To Grow’s student reflection prompts for the new school year to make weekly check-ins more meaningful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. View all the new prompts, along with the corresponding rationale, SEL competencies, and topics by clicking here.

‍

‍

The new prompts are designed to:

  • Align with SEL competencies and MTSS goals to support both skill-building and identification of students who may need additional support.
  • Reduce repetition with new variations of our recurring general reflection prompts—while still giving students an open-ended question every third week.
  • Meet students where they are with age-appropriate language and prompts that reflect students’ real, recent experiences.
  • Connect to the school year with timely, topical questions related to holidays, seasons, and what’s happening in students’ lives.
  • Encourage higher-quality reflections through research-informed prompt design and a clear rationale behind every question.

‍

Every prompt now falls within one of five key areas:

  • General reflection
  • Student-teacher relationship building
  • SEL competency building
  • Tier 2 identification
  • Holidays

‍

Together, these updates help ensure that every check-in gives students an authentic opportunity to share how they’re feeling, reflect on their experiences, and build skills over time—while giving educators more meaningful insight into their students.
