New simplified check-in for TK-2 students
The Emotional Simplified Check-In is designed to be more accessible and engaging for our youngest learners by including features such as:
- Read aloud
- Talk-to-text
- Picture choice questions
- Sentence frames
- More emoji options – color-coded in alignment with the Mood Meter & Zones of Regulation frameworks
For students:
The Simplified Emotional Check-In is a 3-step check-in:
(1) Students will be asked to select an emoji that represents how they feel from an expanded set of emojis.
(2) Students will select a reason for their feeling from a multiple choice list.
(3) Finally, students can expand on their answers using a sentence frame generated from their previous selections.
Note: The final step is optional. Students can submit their check-in without entering a reflection by clicking the check-mark button.

We have multiple accessibility features available for students, including read aloud for the check-in prompt and for teacher responses, talk-to-text, and language translations.

For teachers:
Within the Simplified Emotional Check-In, teachers can respond to student reflections as usual. Emerging readers can use read aloud to listen to their teacher’s responses.

If you’d like to use this new check-in with your students, your school administrator can create and assign the Simplified emotional check-in module to your classroom.
